F-15 Strike Eagle II is the sequel to F-15 Strike Eagle. It is an air combat simulator by MicroProse for the Sega Mega Drive.

Gameplay

Players will take control of a United States Air Force pilot, flying a F-15E Strike Eagle fighter and take on missions across various campaigns. While some of the campaigns are based on real life air operations, some of them are fictional or hypothetical scenarios. Certain liberties also taken for the sake of gameplay, such as allowing F-15E to take off from aircraft carriers.

Campaigns

Notavailable.svg

Libya, "Across the Line of Death"
Based on the Sidra Incident and Operation El Dorado Canyon in 1986, this campaign will focus on targets in Libya.

Notavailable.svg

The Gulf, "Keeping the Sea Lines Open"
Taking place in Persian Gulf, players will engage the forces of Islamic Republic of Iran.

Notavailable.svg

Vietnam, "America's Longest Air War"
A "what-if" scenario suggesting what might have happened if F-15E was in service during the Vietnam War.

Notavailable.svg

Middle East, "Eagle vs MiGs"
Taking off from bases in Israel, players will engage forces of the Arab Coalition, mainly Syria. Players should expect to see number of MiG-29s which will be a worthly opponent to F-15E.

Notavailable.svg

Nordkapp, "Into the Soviets' Backyard"
This campaign will take players to the northernmost Scandinavia in order to defend the Norwegian borders from Soviet forces. Finland is a reluctant ally of the Soviets while Sweden, as usual, maintains strict neutrality.

Notavailable.svg

Europe, "Red Storm Raging"
Inspired from the late Tom Clancy's best-selling military fiction novel "Red Storm Rising", players will be quite busy trying to defend Western Europe from a full-scale Soviet Invasion. The Soviets will throw everything at the front, so players must stay sharp.

History

Development

F-15 Strike Eagle II was originally released for the IBM PC in 1989, with updated Amiga and Atari ST versions being released in 1991. This Mega Drive version derives from the 1991 versions, though makes its own changes to better suit console hardware.

This is the second attempt at bringing the game to the Mega Drive. Sega themselves had planned a port, showcasing their game at Winter CES 1990 and Summer CES 1990. Pre-dating the Amiga and Atari ST ports, Sega's version was derived from the original IBM PC version. The project was cancelled for unknown reasons.
