GameWorks Seattle is a GameWorks entertainment center opened by Sega GameWorks. Launched in March 1997 at Downtown Seattle's Meridian complex to significant media fanfare and publicity, the Seattle location was the first full-scale venue to be made by the company[2]; its opening day was notably broadcast live on MTV as part of the MTV GameWorks Premiere TV special.
The venue survived numerous bankruptcies and corporate takeovers, from the formation of Sega Entertainment USA in the place of the dissolved GameWorks parent company in 2004 to its eventual 2011 sale by Sega. It remained open with parts of its original games line-up and décor until December 2021, closing alongside all other remaining GameWorks locations that month. It reopened in August 2022 under new management.[3]
