Master of Monsters (マスター・オブ・モンスターズ) is a 1988 strategy game by SystemSoft for the PC-88, ported to various other Japanese computers. In 1991, Toshiba EMI had it ported it to the Sega Mega Drive and published it in Japan. Toshiba EMI also introduced a new soundtrack composed by Koichi Sugiyama, Hayato Matsuo, and Hitoshi Sakimoto.

Unlike most, if not all other, SystemSoft games (including this game's various sequels), this version was actually released outside Japan — published in America by Renovation.

The original Master of Monsters went on to spawn a long-lasting series of games. One sequel on the Saturn, Master of Monsters: Neo Generations, was released in 1996.

Gameplay

The game plays similarly to the Daisenryaku games. After choosing a level and setting up team parameters, you can play the game. Selecting one of your monsters and hitting C allows you to control that particular monster, while selecting any space and hitting A allows you to do various battle-related things. Battles appear to be fully automated (TODO).
