Phantasy Star II: Rudger's Adventure (ファンタシースターII テキストアドベンチャー ルドガーの冒険) is a Sega Mega Drive graphic text adventure game developed and published by Sega. Initially released exclusively via the Japanese Sega Game Toshokan online game service in August 1991, it was later re-released as part of the Sega Mega-CD title Game no Kanzume Vol. 2 and the Sony PlayStation 2 title Sega Ages 2500 Series Vol. 32: Phantasy Star Complete Collection, and was also released as as part of Sega's B-Club service.
Available as part of an eight-game series collectively known as the Phantasy Star II Text Adventures, Phantasy Star II: Rudger's Adventure concerns the story of the player's companion and party member Rudger (also known as Rudolf) from the 1989 role-playing game Phantasy Star II.
Story
The game takes place in the summer of AW 1281, about three years before the events of Phantasy Star II.
This chapter features Rudolf "Rudo" Steiner (Japanese: ルドガー・スタイナー (Rudogā Steiner or Rudger Steiner)), who, after heading home while off-duty from the military, finds his wife and child killed, and his hometown devastated after the attack of a mole-like Biomonster. He sets out to hunt the monster down for revenge, leading to his eventual motivation in becoming a hunter dedicated to their extermination. It is implied through the events of this game, as well as his short guest appearance in that of Nei, that after deciding to become a hunter and having encountered Nei sometime afterward, he eventually gains word of Rolf's effort to seek the source of the Biomonster outbreak, resulting in him joining the group.
