Sega's Time-Out was a popular chain of indoor arcade centers in the United States, owned and operated by Sega from December 1986 to July 1990.[1]
History
In December 1986, Sega purchased Time-Out Family Amusement Inc. and its chain of 88 arcades and rebranded them as Sega's Time-Out, with a number of already-owned Sega Centers being rebranded to this name as well. However, by around mid-1990, only 22 of these arcades remained in operation, and in July 1990 Sega sold Time-Out to Edison Brothers Mall Entertainment - temporarily withdrawing from arcade operations in the United States entirely.[1]
While the general decline in the popularity of arcades has resulted in most Time-Out venues seeing permanent closure, a small number of arcades remain in business today.
