The M404 prototype boot ROM is a boot ROM that was used in a prototype Sega Master System unit sent to Sega of America.
Only two games will properly boot with this ROM, both of which are the Japanese versions of Fantasy Zone and Choplifter. This is because the boot ROM checks for the string "COPYRIGHT SEGA" at offset 7FE0 rather than "TMR SEGA" at offsets 7FF0, 3FF0 and 1FF0 like commercial boot ROMs do[1].
