He worked at Sega as a programmer and game designer[1] on home consoles games like Shenmue and arcade games like Quest of D, becoming a director with Quest of D's spiritual successors Shining Force Cross and Soul Reverse. He then brought his arcade action RPG experience back home with Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis.
