Unlike the NTSC-J version, the NTSC-U and PAL versions use a slightly different color palette when played on the highest difficulty setting. The NTSC-J version has an extra stage that appears to be a test stage used during development. It can be accessed by starting the game in easy mode (go into the options menu, highligh rank setting and quicky push {{A}}{{B}}{{C}}{{A}}{{B}}{{C}}{{A}}{{B}}{{C}} to unlock easy and heavy difficulty modes).

Ranger-X, called Ex-Ranza (エクスランザー) in Japan, is a run-and-gun game developed by Gau Entertainment (who were bought by Nextech shortly after the game's release) and published by Sega for the Sega Mega Drive in 1993. During development it was known as Transa Banker[7].

Gameplay

You play as a robot fighter called EX-CP who shoots at specified targets in a level while destroying the various enemies and ammunition you may encounter. You can move left to right freely (so if you miss a target you can go back) and can either walk or hover up and fly, but will come down automatically after you release up or stay up too long. There are two weapons: a normal infinite-ammunition gun, shot left with A and right with C, and a special fireball-like weapon with limited ammunition shot with B (it may be shot at the same time as the normal gun). Furthermore, you have a small vehicle which follows you on the ground as you move (or you may choose to ride it) and shoots a normal gun in the same direction as yours.

The game also supports the six button control pad, which allows further control over the vehicle.

Versions

Unlike the NTSC-J version, the NTSC-U and PAL versions use a slightly different color palette when played on the highest difficulty setting.
