El Viento (エル・ヴィエント) is a 1991 action platformer developed by Wolf Team for the Sega Mega Drive and published exclusively in the US and Japan by Renovation Products. It is the first game to be released in the trilogy followed by Earnest Evans and Anetto Futatabi.

A UK release, set to be distributed by Ubisoft for £44.99 in November 1991, was planned[4] but cancelled for unknown reasons. However, the Genesis version was officially distributed in France with an extra translated manual.[5]

Story

The game takes place in New York City during the late 1920s. Mad religious leader Henry attempts to awaken the ancient and malevolent god Hastur using sorceress Restiana as willing sacrifice. They are constructing a shrine to Hastur inside the (as yet incomplete) Empire State Building. They are working with the gangster Al Capone (Vincente DeMarcoto in the American localization) and have tasked him with killing the young Peruvian sorceress, Annet Myer. Annet is a distant relative of Hastur and the only human capable of defeating him. With some assistance from Earnest Evans, Annet attempts to stop the cult from resurrecting Hastur using the spells of her bloodline.

Gameplay

Annet can throw boomerangs with A and jump with B. She also can use one of a variety of magic spells which are all thrown with C; she has limited magic power and can refill her magic power with power-ups. Unlike Earnest Evans, she can only crouch and stand still while crouching, though she can still fire while crouching. Each level is split up into multiple parts, and there is no prerequisite for leaving a part of a level, but she must still find the boss chamber.
