Akio Sakai (酒井 昭郎) is a character designer and cutscene artist at Sega of Japan. He most likely joined the company in the late 90's and worked mainly on the Let's Make Baseball/Pro Yakyuu Team o Tsukurou! series at Smilebit. Despite this, in 2003, when many non-sports developers at Smilebit migrated to Amusement Vision, he went with them and designed characters for Yakuza.

After briefly doing more character art for Sonic the Hedgehog, possibly stationed at Global Entertainment R&D Dept. 1, he moved to Global Entertainment R&D Dept. 2 and its successor Sega CS3, working of the earlier games in the Valkyria Chronicles and Hatsune Miku series. He returned to Yakuza with Yakuza 0. His last known game is 7th Dragon III Code: VFD.
