History
Development
The concept for Hundred Swords came up before the launch of the Dreamcast, inspired by its capabilities for online play. Research began into various PC strategy games that were popular in the United States, such as Age of Empires, and through trial and error the developers figured out a way to make the genre fit on home consoles. The development team, at the time going by Sega Software R&D Dept. 6, began earnest development in July 1999, with the majority of programming and art staff taken from the former Sega PC R&D division who had experience porting games like Virtual-On and Virtua Fighter to PC, but also with several Panzer Dragoon developers from CS1 and Sakura Taisen developers for CS2 to enhance the game's story mode[8].
