Puyo Puyo (ぷよぷよ) is a puzzle game developed and originally published by Compile for the MSX2 computers in October 1991, featuring characters from the Madou Monogatari series. It was sold exclusively on floppy disk format. In the same day, Tokuma Shoten Intermedia published this game for the Famicom Disk System as part of the Famimaga series. This version would be later re-released on standard Family Computer cartridge format, again, by Tokuma Shoten Intermedia, in July 1993, featuring updated graphics that matches art styles from the 1992 Arcade release of Puyo Puyo. Compared with the Arcade and Mega Drive versions, this iteration of Puyo Puyo had no story mode and no characters besides Arle Nadja, Carbuncle and the Puyo Puyo enemies were featured (although there is an ending that can be seen by clearing all puzzles in the Mission mode).
The MSX2 and Famicom (both cartridge and Disk System) versions of Puyo Puyo were re-released on Project EGG by D4 Enterprise in 2024 with permission of Sega to use the character rights. The Famicom versions also adds subtitles for both cartridge and disk variants, each named as "Cartridge Version" and "Disk Version" (unlike the original releases, the 1993 version was re-released first than the earlier disk version).

The earlier graphics style of the Puyo Puyo enemies from this iteration of Puyo Puyo would later be an unlockable skin for many future Puyo Puyo games handled by Sega, named as a "MSX" skin.
