J. Walter Thompson[1] (JWT) was a former advertising agency founded in New York by William James Carlton in 1864 and incorporated in 1896 by James Walter Thompson. Is currently a marketing communications company and it's owned, since 1987, by WPP plc (Wire and Plastic Products), a British multinational advertising and public relations company based in London.
JWT was put in charge of Sega of America's marketing budget in 1986, designing the packaging and marketing that surrounded the Sega Master System. Subsidiaries have worked with other divisions of Sega, including in Portugal during the Sega Dreamcast years, and Australia for one-off Sega mobile marketing campaigns.
