Hook is a platforming game based on the 1991 film Hook. It was originally developed by Ukiyotei and released on the Super NES in 1992, but it was ported to the Sega Mega Drive and Sega Mega-CD by Core Design and to the Sega Game Gear by Spidersoft in 1993.
While the game is tied to the movie, the likenesses of the original cast are completely missing from all versions.

Story
Peter Pan, "the Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up," was a mischievous boy who had many adventures on the mythical island of Neverland as the leader of the Lost Boys. Now an adult, he has forgotten about his childhood. After returning home to find his children missing, his childhood friend Wendy Darling, now an elderly woman, reminds him of his past and tells him that he must defeat the one-handed pirate Captain Hook and his henchmen to rescue them.
Gameplay
Mega Drive and Mega-CD versions
The game is a side-scrolling platformer in which the player controls a grown-up Peter Pan, who travels across Neverland to stop Captain Hook. Peter walks with or and ducks with . He jumps with . His jump is floaty, and he jumps higher if the button is held for longer. He swims by holding while moving the D-Pad in any direction. He swings his dagger with , which can be done while ducking, jumping, or swimming. He can sprint by holding with or . He can jump much higher while sprinting. If he obtains Pixie Dust from Tinkerbell, he can fly by pressing again while in midair and using the D-Pad to move. His flight is limited by the Fly meter. He can fly faster by holding (similar to running) or cancel his flight by pressing again while flying.
After defeating Rufio, the new leader of the Lost Boys, in the first level, Peter receives a golden sword as a weapon, capable of shooting star balls. Peter loses the sword when he takes damage and reverts to using his dagger, but the sword can be found hidden in some levels.
Peter's health is measured in leaves. He begins with two leaves and loses one each time an enemy attacks. After losing all of his leaves, he can sustain one more hit before losing a life. The player can collect additional leaves throughout the game to increase his health. Fruits scattered throughout each level can be collected to replenish lost health. Players lose a life if Peter runs out of health or if time runs out for the level.

History
Development
A Sega Master System version was reportedly in development, but was cancelled for unknown reasons.
Legacy
The game received a spiritual successor called Skyblazer, which was also developed by Ukiyotei and released exclusively for the Super NES in 1994.
Versions
The Mega-CD version includes three short full-motion video excerpts from the movie and adapts its orchestral soundtrack, composed by John Williams. It also has a computer-generated scan of Captain Hook's ship in the introduction. While the game features voice acting, it uses different actors from the film.
