Minobe began working with Sega in 1996, producing sound effects and arranging music beginning with the original Sakura Taisen and later composing and performing his own music from 1998 on, usually for Sonic Team titles. His main instrument is the piano.
In 2005, Minobe left Sega to join Delfi Sound Inc., a subsidiary of Marvelous Entertainment. This, however, has not prevented him from working with his former company, especially when it comes to the Sonic the Hedgehog series.
Minobe has also worked on anime soundtracks, most notably that of the 2003 Astro Boy TV series and Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's, the latter of which he produced alongside Wall 5 Project (of which Heigo Tani, another former Sega music associate, is a member).
