+ | In addition to the Official Races, Event Races are side activities used primarily to earn money (although some have cars as prizes). Some events are only open to specific vehicles, and all (bar two) use a different course each day. The prize money (and difficulty) increases as the player earns more licenses (or moves onto the second season).

+ | ''Sega GT 2002'' scraps a large percentage of the cars from the original ''Sega GT'' (including all by [[Daihatsu]], which is no longer represented as a manufacturer), but instead widens its scope across more manufacturers in the US and Europe. Most of the racing vehicles are gone (such as the GT3 and GT2-spec cars), with a greater focus on sports cars.
+ | |||
+ | Unlike the original ''Sega GT'', all regions received the same selection of cars. There was also no attempt to localise model names as there had been in its predecessor.

Sega GT 2002 is a racing game developed by WOW Entertainment and published by Sega exclusively on the Xbox in 2002. It was pitched as Sega's answer to the PlayStation 2-exclusive Gran Turismo 3, which had seen success earlier in 2001.
While technically a sequel to the Sega Dreamcast (and Windows PC) game Sega GT, Sega GT 2002 is a complete re-working of the formula, and having been built from the ground up, shares little in common with its predecessor other than basic concepts and a name. Sega would release an update to this game, Sega GT Online in late 2003.

Modes
Sega GT 2002
The "Sega GT 2002" mode is the main event of the game, in which the player competes in a number of races over two "seasons". Similarly to the Gran Turismo games, the player starts with imited funds, so is forced to buy a cheap car. By winning races, prize money is awarded, allowing the player to either upgrade their existing vehicle or buy a new one, in an attempt to become more competitive in more challenging races.
Official Race
Official Races progress the game, and while do not award high pay-outs, open the door for new cars, parts and more challenging Event Races (see below).
Season 1
In the first season, Official Races are divided up into six "stages", consisting of multiple races each. The objective is to get a podium finish, after which players will be invited to a "License Test". Complete the test, and the next stage will be unlocked. Once the first five stages are completed, a sixth stage, consisting solely of a "World Championship" race will be made available. Win this race to unlock season two.

Season 2
In the second season, the objective is to win every race, however this time there is no need to play the stages in order (save for Stage 6 and the World Championship, which are only unlocked when the rest have been completed). The races have been re-arranged in season 2, but are otherwise the same as season 1, just with faster opponents.

Event Race
In addition to the Official Races, Event Races are side activities used primarily to earn money (although some have cars as prizes). Some events are only open to specific vehicles, and all (bar two) use a different course each day. The prize money (and difficulty) increases as the player earns more licenses (or moves onto the second season).

Cars
Sega GT 2002 scraps a large percentage of the cars from the original Sega GT (including all by Daihatsu, which is no longer represented as a manufacturer), but instead widens its scope across more manufacturers in the US and Europe. Most of the racing vehicles are gone (such as the GT3 and GT2-spec cars), with a greater focus on sports cars.
Unlike the original Sega GT, all regions received the same selection of cars. There was also no attempt to localise model names as there had been in its predecessor.
