Super Puyo Puyo 2, known as Super Puyo Puyo Tsuu in Japan (す〜ぱ〜ぷよぷよ通) is a puzzle game, orginially developed and published by Compile for the Super Famicom in December 1995. The game is a port of Puyo Puyo Tsuu for the system. Notable additions to this version are intermissions before the battles in Arcade mode, a 4 player Versus mode (Super Multitap from Hudson Soft or equivalent is required) and new voice samples for the characters. Super Puyo Puyo 2 would be later re-released again on the system as Super Puyo Puyo Tsuu Remix in 1996. It was also re-released on digital format for the system as Super Puyo Puyo Tsuu BS Ban, a special edition for the BS-X users who had a Satellaview attached to their systems. As with most versions of Puyo Puyo 2, Super Puyo Puyo 2 was not translated into English or other language besides Japanese.
Nintendo re-released Super Puyo Puyo 2 worldwide as part of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System - Nintendo Switch Online app for Nintendo Switch with a license from Sega (at the time, Sega Games) by being one of the "launch day" titles in September 2019, alongside NES games on Nintendo Entertainment System - Nintendo Switch Online. As of May 2024, it is one of the two games released on Non-Sega hardware available across the apps based on Nintendo hardware, the other being Vice: Project Doom.

Story
“ | Super Puyo Puyo 2 is the Super Famicom™ version of the head-to head puzzle game Puyo Puyo 2, so the game has never translated into English. The objective of the game is to clear your grid of falling blobs, called Puyos, by arranging them in linked chains of four or more same-colored Puyos.
What makes this a challenging two-player contest is the fact that when you clear a chain of Puyos from your grid, Garbage Puyos are dropped onto your opponent's grid. The more Puyos you clear, the more your opponent's grid is filled. If you can drop so many Garbage Puyos on their grid that it fills to the top, you win the game! With the addition of a single-player mode, it's an amusing experience for one or two players. |

History
Legacy
While Super Puyo Puyo 2 allows support up to 4 players in versus battles, the Nintendo Switch Online re-release only allows up to 2-player versus battles. This is not a bug, but rather, a limitation on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System - Nintendo Switch Online app itself.
In an unknown Super Nintendo Entertainment System - Nintendo Switch Online update, the box art of the game used in the title selection screen was updated to be less sharpned. The LMS Music logo is also removed from the title screen, through in-fly patches (playing the ROM dump in conventional emulators still shows the logo).
