Virtua Fighter 3 is the third entry in the Virtua Fighter series, and a direct sequel to Virtua Fighter 2. It was released in 1996 for Sega Model 3 arcade hardware - one of the first games to hit the system along with Scud Race.
Virtua Fighter 3, like its predeccessor, adds two new playable characters to the roster, in this case, Aoi Umenokoji (a Japanese student) and Taka-Arashi (a sumo wrestler). It also takes improvements in the graphics and sound department, as Model 3 hardware has superior processing and graphical power to the Sega Model 2 hardware running Virtua Fighter 2. Virtua Fighter 3 adds new innovations such as multi-level play areas and dodge button.
Virtua Fighter 3 was due to be released on the Sega Saturn, albeit with vastly reduced graphics. The decision was later made to bring the game to the Sega Dreamcast instead, however delays meant that it was substituted for the improved Virtua Fighter 3tb.
