Virtua Fighter Kids (バーチャファイター キッズ) is a spin-off of the Virtua Fighter series. It was released for Sega Titan Video arcade hardware in 1996 before being ported to the Sega Saturn .
Gameplay
Virtua Fighter Kids is a roughly 20% faster and in some cases simpler version of Virtua Fighter 2 with super-deformed characters. The game is more combo-driven, and in-fight replays are borrowed from Fighting Vipers . Collision detection (and to a lesser degree, physics) are also altered, making characters easier to hit. On the Saturn at least, there is an option to simplify the control scheme further for younger players.
In Japan the game heavily advertises the Japanese Sinvino beverage, Java Tea (ジャワティー), with Jacky holding a can in a victory pose and Shun regularly taking sips of the beverage during fights. All Java Tea references were removed from Western versions.
Of note is the Kids version of Dural, in which a goldfish can be seen swimming around her head. The Kids versions of Akira Yuki and Sarah Bryant are unlockable characters within Fighters Megamix .
