The home computer versions of Golden Axe were released around late 1990 for the Amiga, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST, Commodore 64, IBM PC, and ZX Spectrum.

Development

The Amiga and Atari ST versions were developed simultaneously and were originally based on the Sega Mega Drive version^[4]. Realising that the Mega Drive made changes, elements from the arcade version were brought back in to this version^[4]

Versions

Commodore 64

The Commodore 64 port was initially released with the final level missing, leading to the game being recalled and replaced with fixed versions^[5].

IBM PC

Despite being a selectable graphics option, Hercules support is broken in the IBM PC port of Golden Axe and will only function correctly in certain PC setups. This is due to a coding error, which has subsequently been fixed by the community.
