Cliffhanger is a Sega Mega Drive and Sega Mega-CD beat-'em-up game released in 1993. It was developed by Malibu Interactive and published by Sony Imagesoft as a tie-in to the 1993 Sylvester Stallone film Cliffhanger. A version for the Sega Game Gear was also released, but is a very different game.
The player controls Gabe Walker, who must fight a group of terrorists trying to stop him from saving his partner Hal, who they kidnapped after the two of them went to answer a distress call from a crashed plane.
Gameplay
16-bit versions of the game are all beat-em-ups along the same lines as Streets of Rage. On Sega platforms, either punches, picks up a weapon, or uses it, kicks, and jumps, with combination moves possible. This version of the game was developed using the source code from the game Ex-Mutants (also developed by Malibu Interactive). The Mega-CD version also has a 3D avalanche-escape level and low-quality FMVs of various scenes from the motion picture.
