Shenmue Seisaku Happyoukai (シェンムー 制作発表会) was a press conference for Shenmue at the Pacifico Yokohama National Convention Hall on 20th December, 1998. It was at this event where Shenmue (under its final name) was shown to the world, running on a Dreamcast console.
Three "performances" with free entry occurred on that day at 10:00, 12:30 and 17:00, respectively[1], with further presentations at five other cities in Japan during January 1999. All visitors were given a free goody bag with a CD (Shenmue/Shenhua), T-shirt, notebook and brochure, with merchandise also available for sale[2].
The theme tune was performed by the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra, and as a nod to the game's Chinese focus, a "hugely popular Chinese pop star" took to the stage to sing[3]. Yu Suzuki was on stage describing the game, with Shoichiro Irimajiri and Hidekazu Yukawa also in attendance.
