+ | ==Story== | ||
+ | One year after the death of Geese Howard in ''[[Fatal Fury]]'', a mysterious nobleman becomes the sponsor of a new King of Fighters tournament. This time, the tournament takes place around the world, with both veterans and newcomers competing against one another.

+ | The game is a one-on-one fighting game. The game retains the two-lane fighting system from the first game. It adopts a four-button layout for attacks, increasing the amount of moves available to each character. As in the previous entry matches are fought to the best of three rounds, with each round having a 60-second time limit. If time runs out, the fighter with the most vitality remaining is the winner.
− | {{ | + | Characters move with {{left}} and {{right}} and crouch with {{down}}. They can move forward while crouched with {{downright}} (or {{downleft}} when facing left). They backstep with {{left}} {{left}} (or {{right}} {{right}} when facing left). They jump with {{up}} and flip back and forth with {{upleft}} and {{upright}}. When using a standard control pad, characters can attack with a light punch with {{A}}, a heavy punch with {{A}}+{{C}}, a light kick with {{B}}, and a heavy kick with {{B}}+{{C}}. They taunt with {{repeat|{{C}}}}. When using a [[Six Button Control Pad (Mega Drive)|Six Button Control Pad]], characters can attack with a light punch with {{X}}, a heavy punch with {{Y}}, a light kick with {{A}}, and a heavy kick with {{B}}. They taunt with {{Mode}}. Characters have different attacks depending on whether they are standing, crouching, or jumping. Every fighter has special techniques performed by inputting specific directions with an attack button. The game also introduces Desperation moves, which are powerful special moves that can causes massive damage but can only be used when the character's vitality gauge is low and flashing. |
− | {{right}} | + | |
− | {{left}} | + | Characters can throw nearby opponents by holding the D-Pad toward the opponent and pressing the heavy punch button. They can block attacks by holding the D-Pad in the opposite direction of the opponent. Blocking while standing guards against high attacks (from a standing or jumping opponent), while blocking while crouched defends against both high and low attacks. While guarding an opponent's attack, characters can counter with an evasion maneuver by pressing the weak punch button, which reduces the damage taken and potentially damages the opponent if within range. Characters become knocked out from being attacked repeatedly; they are uncontrollable and vulnerable in this state but can recover more quickly by rapidly pressing back and forth on the D-Pad along with the attack buttons. |
− | {{left}}{{left}} | + | |
− | {{ | + | Characters switch between lanes with {{A}}+{{B}} on a standard control pad or {{Z}} on a six button control pad. If an opponent is already in a different lane, the character can roll into the other lane with {{up}} or {{down}} or perform a jumping attack across the lanes with any attack button. Characters can perform a "3D attack" with {{A}}+{{C}} on a standard control pad or {{C}} on a six button control pad, which is an attack that knocks the opponent into the opposite lane. Some stages have objects that can be destroyed when a fighter is thrown through them. Certain stages have hazards in the background lane, such as electrified ropes or a stampede of bulls, and thus the player cannot change lanes but can knock the opponent to the other lane to cause extra damage. |

− | {{ | + | ===Modes=== |
− | {{down}} | + | There is a single-player story mode that can be played as any of eight characters. The player can choose the first opponent. After facing all eight playable characters (including a mirror match against the player's chosen character), the player fights four non-playable boss characters. The game has limited continues. |

− | + | There is also a versus mode where players can play a single match as any character against a computer or another human player (or watch two computer players fight). There is a new Survival Match mode that can be played by one or two players where players choose five fighters and compete in single-round matches to eliminate all of the opposing player's characters. There is no time limit in this mode, and characters do not gain any vitality back after a round.

Fatal Fury 2, known as Garou Densetsu 2: Aratanaru Tatakai (餓狼伝説2 新たなる闘い) in Japan, is the sequel to Fatal Fury. It was originally released by SNK for the Neo Geo in 1992, then it was brought to the Sega Mega Drive by Takara in 1994.
Fatal Fury 2 is one of the few Mega Drive games to be released in Australia but not Europe. Although an unreleased European version of the game exists, its origins are unclear. Three documented copies are known to date.[6]

Story
One year after the death of Geese Howard in Fatal Fury, a mysterious nobleman becomes the sponsor of a new King of Fighters tournament. This time, the tournament takes place around the world, with both veterans and newcomers competing against one another.
Gameplay
The game is a one-on-one fighting game.
Characters move with and and crouch with . They can move forward while crouched with (or when facing left). They backstep with (or when facing left). They jump with and flip back and forth with and . When using a standard control pad, characters can attack with a light punch with , a heavy punch with +, a light kick with , and a heavy kick with +. They taunt with . When using a Six Button Control Pad, characters can attack with a light punch with , a heavy punch with , a light kick with , and a heavy kick with . They taunt with MODE .
Characters can throw nearby opponents by holding the D-Pad toward the opponent and pressing the heavy punch button.
Characters switch between lanes with + on a standard control pad or on a six button control pad. If an opponent is already in a different lane, the character can roll into the other lane with or or perform a jumping attack across the lanes with any attack button. Characters can perform a "3D attack" with + on a standard control pad or on a six button control pad, which is an attack that knocks the opponent into the opposite lane. Some stages have objects that can be destroyed when a fighter is thrown through them. Certain stages have hazards in the background lane, such as electrified ropes or a stampede of bulls, and thus the player cannot change lanes but can knock the opponent to the other lane to cause extra damage.
Modes
There is a single-player story mode that can be played as any of eight characters. The player can choose the first opponent. After facing all eight playable characters (including a mirror match against the player's chosen character), the player fights four non-playable boss characters. The game has limited continues.
There is also a versus mode where players can play a single match as any character against a computer or another human player (or watch two computer players fight). There is a new Survival Match mode that can be played by one or two players where players choose five fighters and compete in single-round matches to eliminate all of the opposing player's characters. There is no time limit in this mode, and characters do not gain any vitality back after a round.
There are three difficulty levels for computer-controlled opponents (Easy, Normal, and Hard).

Note: Move lists assume that the character is facing right. When facing left, and should be reversed.
