The game is a platformer played as Fred Flintstone, who must travel through different locations set in the Stone Age in order to recover items for his friends and family. Each stage is divided into multiple segment (usually four), with a fight against a boss at the end. When the boss is defeated, it gives up the item that Fred was seeking.

He can grab ledges by holding {{A}} or {{C}} when jumping in front of them, then climb up by pressing {{up}}. He can climb back down a ledge by standing on the edge of a platform and holding {{down}} while pressing {{A}} or {{C}}. He attacks by swinging his club with {{B}}, which can be done while standing or jumping. Some enemy projectiles can be knocked away by hitting them with Fred's club.

In some stages, Fred can find an egg that, once cracked open, allows him to ride a pterodactyl for a duration. The pterodactyl jumps much higher and can glide through the air by holding {{A}} or {{C}}. It attacks by spewing fireballs with {{B}}.

Fred starts the game with three health hearts and loses one when he takes damage. Some hazards only cost half of a health heart, and some hazards (such as lava) cost all of Fred's health hearts. Fred can find items that recover lost health hearts or give him another health heart (up to a maximum of six). He loses a life when he loses all of his health hearts but restarts at the beginning of the stage segment (with one less health heart if he has any extra, down to the minimum of three) if the player has extra lives. The game ends if the player runs out of lives but can be continued a limited number of times. There are three difficulty levels (Easy, Normal, and Hard), which affects the number of hits that bosses can take before they are defeated. The game only goes up to the fourth stage on Easy difficulty.

The Flintstones (フリントストーン) is a 1993 platformer for the Sega Mega Drive by Taito based on the The Flintstones animated television series.

Story

Fred Flintstone must recover lost items for his wife Wilma and their friends.

Gameplay

The game is a platformer played as Fred Flintstone, who must travel through different locations set in the Stone Age in order to recover items for his friends and family. Each stage is divided into multiple segment (usually four), with a fight against a boss at the end. When the boss is defeated, it gives up the item that Fred was seeking.

Fred walks with Left and Right. He ducks with Down and jumps with A or C. He can grab ledges by holding A or C when jumping in front of them, then climb up by pressing Up. He can climb back down a ledge by standing on the edge of a platform and holding Down while pressing A or C. He attacks by swinging his club with B, which can be done while standing or jumping. Some enemy projectiles can be knocked away by hitting them with Fred's club.

In some stages, Fred can find an egg that, once cracked open, allows him to ride a pterodactyl for a duration. The pterodactyl jumps much higher and can glide through the air by holding A or C. It attacks by spewing fireballs with B.
