The Sega Saturn version of The Lost World: Jurassic Park (ロスト・ワールド ジュラシックパーク) is a "2.5D" action platforming game based on the movie with the same name.

Gameplay

Scenarios

Compsognathus

This small dinosaur is the first one playable. It has a total of nine levels making it the one with the most of all characters. The Compy must use its agility and small size to progress through levels. While it can attack smaller dinosaurs, it has no choice but to run from larger ones considering it's at the bottom of the food chain. The Compy must travel through dense forests, through plains, underwater, and finally show down with the Human Hunter in a cave, climbing to the top to make its escape.

Human Hunter

The Human Hunter scenario features a hunter from INGEN who is on Site B to help round up dinosaurs for the Peter Ludlow. He must make his way through the Tidal Caves that the Compy left off on, go through desolate canyons, enter a Geothermal plant of sorts, and eventually make it to an old INGEN complex where he must escape a horde of Raptors. Along the way, the Hunter can collect special power ups for his weapons and he can latch onto objects above him with a grappling hook.

Velociraptor

In the Velociraptor game, the player picks up where the Human Hunter scenario leaves off. The raptor must escape the INGEN complex now infested with Human Hunters. After this, it must travel through a jungle and make its way to the island's volcanic areas. In the final stage, the Raptor fights a Euoplocephalus as a sort of boss.

History

Versions

The Lost World on the Sega Saturn continues the tradition of Sega-published Jurassic Park games, but unlike earlier outings was not exclusive to a Sega console, having first appeared on the PlayStation in late August 1997 (published by Electronic Arts), a few weeks prior to the Saturn release. The Saturn version is a slightly cut-down port of the game, with lower quality (and lower frame rate) full motion video clips, and collision detection issues which do not appear in the PlayStation version. Loading times are also slightly longer, though the base game remains identical.

To compensate, the Saturn version contains some exclusive content.
