Chuck Rock II: Son of Chuck, called just Chuck Rock II (チャックロックII) in Japan, is the sequel to Chuck Rock and stars Chuck's six month old son who must rescue his kidnapped father. It was released for the Sega Mega Drive, Sega Mega-CD, Sega Game Gear, and Sega Master System between 1993 and 1994.

Story

Chuck Rock II CD, Introduction.png

Introduction

The story takes up a little while after the end of the first game. After Chuck Rock rescued his wife, Ophelia Rock, from Gary Gritter, Chuck and Ophelia had a son named Chuck Junior.

Chuck Senior works in a factory, where he develops great skill at carving automobiles out of stone. A rival manufacturer, named Brick Jagger (a pun on Rolling Stones lead vocalist Mick Jagger) becomes jealous of Chuck's abilities and kidnaps him, leaving it up to Junior to rescue his father.

Gameplay

The game is a platformer played as the baby Chuck Jr. He walks with Left and Right and jumps with C. He can attack by swinging his club with B, which gives him longer reach than his father. He can attack while jumping. He can stand on his club by holding A to avoid enemies or obstacles. Instead of carrying objects like his father, Chuck Jr. can move them by attacking with the club. He can also mount some small dinosaurs with A and ride them or use them as platforms.

Health is indicated by a baby bottle; the bottle empties as Chuck Jr. takes damage. He loses a life when he runs out of health, though he revives in place after a moment. Chuck Jr. can replenish his health by collecting baby bottles. There are bonus stages between some of the stages; the player is rewarded 5,000 bonus points and an extra life for completing one successfully.

History

It appears some code and graphics (such as small cubic rocks) were also used for Wonder Dog. Unlike the original Chuck Rock game, which was ported to the SNES and Game Boy, Chuck Rock II: Son of Chuck was not ported to any Nintendo systems.

Versions

The Sega Mega-CD version differs slightly from Sega Mega Drive version, not only by featuring animated cutscenes and Red Book audio, but also by using the systems sprite scaling ability.
