Lethal Enforcers (リーサルエンフォーサーズ) is a 2-player light-gun shooting game originally released for the arcades by Konami in 1992. It was ported to the Sega Mega Drive and Sega Mega-CD in 1993, as well as the Super NES (with censorship) at around the same time.

Gameplay

In order to make an accurate conversion of the arcade game, Konami opted to produce their own light gun for the console ports Lethal Enforcers known as The Justifier, rather than using the existing first party light guns for their 16-bit consoles (the Menacer in the case of the Mega Drive). Both, the Mega Drive and Mega-CD version of Lethal Enforcers were packaged with a light blue Justifier for the Mega Drive and no stand-alone version of the game without the gun were sold. Because of this, consumers who would purchase both, the cartridge and CD-ROM versions of Lethal Enforcers would be left with a spare Justifier light gun that they would likely never use, since in order for two players to use their guns, a separately-sold pink Justifier is required that daisy-chains into the blue Justifier.

The premise of the game is simple: you're a police officer and you shoot the criminals before they shoot you while leaving the civilians unharmed. When using the standard controller, A/B shoot and C reloads; when using the Justifier, pulling the trigger when aimed at any area of the screen shoots, and pulling the trigger when aimed away from the screen reloads. You can also use weapons some enemies drop, by shooting at the weapon icons which appear on the screen after killing the relevant enemy.

History

Release

At least ten special copies of the Mega-CD version were known to be given away in a contest by the Japanese magazine Famitsu.[6][7] [More information on this is needed.]

The Mega-CD version of Lethal Enforcers was the second game to be given an MA-17 rating by Sega's Videogame Rating Council[8], following Night Trap. The game was banned in Germany[9].

Legacy

Lethal Enforcers was followed by Lethal Enforcers II: Gun Fighters, which was also ported to both the Mega Drive and Mega-CD.
