''Shining Force III'', in its western form, is only one third of the overall ''Shining Force III'' story. In Japan, the game was split into three parts (or "scenarios") - ''Shining Force III Scenario 1: Outo no Kyoshin'', ''[[Shining Force III Scenario 2: Nerawareta Miko]]'' and ''[[Shining Force III Scenario 3: Hyouheki no Jashinguu]]'', however in the west, the two latter scenarios were not released, and the subtitle of the first was removed. Shining Force III is a Sega Saturn RPG and a direct sequel to Shining Force II, both being part of the Shining series of games.
Shining Force III, in its western form, is only one third of the overall Shining Force III story. In Japan, the game was split into three parts (or "scenarios") - Shining Force III Scenario 1: Outo no Kyoshin, Shining Force III Scenario 2: Nerawareta Miko and Shining Force III Scenario 3: Hyouheki no Jashinguu, however in the west, the two latter scenarios were not released, and the subtitle of the first was removed. This can lead to some confusion, as the name Shining Force III can mean both the collection of the three Shining Force III scenarios, and just Outo no Kyoshin.
The trilogy constitutes the last game(s) developed by Sonic! Software Planning before its merger with Camelot Software Planning, who served as co-developer.
