Daytona USA 2001 (DAYTONAデイトナ USA 2001) (known simply as Daytona USA in North America) is an update to the 1994 arcade racing game Daytona USA released for the Sega Dreamcast in 2001.

    Gameplay

Daytona USA 2001 includes all of the features seen in Daytona USA and Daytona USA: Championship Circuit Edition, but also offers improved graphics, car modifications and remixed music (with the CCE tracks having completely new music). All the tracks can be played in mirrored, reverse and mirror-reverse mode and a "championship mode" was added to the game.

The game is known for having very sensitive controls which far exceed those found in the arcade games. Though in the Western version the analogue stick's sensitivity can be altered, it is still considered too sensitive, even with a steering wheel.

    History

At Sega Gamer's Day 2000, the game was unveiled to a US audience as Daytona USA: Network Racing, before dropping its subtitle later in the year. Hasbro Interactive (one of three publishers responsible for NASCAR-related games at the time, alongside Electronic Arts and Sierra) were involved in the Japanese and North American releases and Infogrames in the European release (given that Hasbro Interactive had been sold to Infogrames), as at the time, Sega did not have the license to the Daytona brand[16].
