Like ''Judgment'', gameplay is a mix of (real time) fighting and detective work, with new additions including a rudimentary parkour system for climbing up buildings and stealth mechanics, both limited to special areas.
+ | |||
+ | Roughly the same amount of Kamurocho can be accessed as in ''Judgment'', however the southern section of Isezaki Ijincho is closed off (such as what would have been the Seiryu Clan headquarters). Instead, a brand new area to the West containing Seiryo High School has been added, which forms the setting for the initial parts of the game.

Arcade games
As is tradition with the series, numerous old Sega arcade games can be played from Club Sega locations both in Kamurocho and Isezaki Ijincho. Lost Judgment adds a playable version of Sonic the Fighters, to the roster, with Fantasy Zone, Fighting Vipers, Motor Raid, Space Harrier, Super Hang-On, Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown and UFO Catcher machines returning from prior entries. Also included is a new take on The House of the Dead, Hama of the Dead.
Sonic the Fighters derives from the 2012 Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 release of the game, so features its extra (secret) characters.
Drone racing
Drone racing makes a return from Judgment, though with new courses set in Isezaki Ijincho.
Sega Master System
Yagami Detective Agency has replaced its pinball machine in Lost Judgment with a fully working Sega Master System console (and television) complete with playable games. Yagami already owns an Alex Kidd in Miracle World cartridge (and can play Snail Maze through the BIOS), but other titles, including Enduro Racer, Fantasy Zone, Maze Hunter 3-D, Penguin Land, Quartet, Secret Command and Woody Pop can be found during the main game.
The versions in Lost Judgment are emulated versions of the original games, and the player can choose between Japanese and Western versions of each title.
The Detective Essentials Pack DLC gives Yagami a further four games: Alien Syndrome, Fantasy Zone II: The Tears of Opa-Opa, SDI and Sagaia. Sagaia is unique because the Master System version of the game was never released in Japan (and is a Taito property, while the rest are owned by Sega).
All twelve of the above games are included as part of the Mega Drive Tower Mini Zero cosmetic accessory for the Mega Drive Mini, which was released as a tie-in with Lost Judgment in Japan (although strictly speaking Yagami owns a Master System console, not a Sega Mega Drive with a Mega Adaptor).
