The RetroGen is an accessory for the Super Nintendo Entertainment system, allowing the console to play Sega Mega Drive games. The device was released in 2011 by Retro-bit, and likely has no backing from either Sega or Nintendo.
The RetroGen is less impressive than it sounds - it is effectively a Mega Drive console housed within a Super Nintendo game cartridge. It draws its power from the SNES and uses the SNES controllers for input, but requires its own separate A/V cables. The internals of the Super Nintendo are rarely used - everything is done from within the cartridge.
There is a region switch on the side.
