Sega Mega Drive consoles on a chip
From Sega Retro
Advances in technology mean that for later re-releases of the Sega Mega Drive, it became possible to shrink all of the original system's components into one single microchip. These "consoles on a chip" are significantly easier and cheaper to produce in modern times, though do not always perform as well as a traditional Mega Drive set-up. Such products began to appear in the early 2000s and continue to be manufactured to this day.
The majority of the official products were produced by AtGames, and some rely on emulation rather than genuine Mega Drive parts.
