X-Men is a Sega Game Gear action platform game developed by Paul Hutchinson at Sega of America, and published by Sega. Based on the popular 1963 American comic series The X-Men, it was released exclusively in the United States in January 1994[1], and is notable for sharing gameplay mechanics and assets with the company's previous superhero game, Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin.

Gameplay

Button 1 is used to attack, and button 2 is used to jump. Tapping  START  will active the player character's mutant ability, and holding the button down will pause the game.

Two difficulty levels are available: "Piece o'cake" (the easier option), and "I don't think so" (the harder option.) Choosing the former will end the game after completing the fourth level.

Playable characters

Notavailable.svg

Wolverine
Wolverine has average health, and is one of few player characters whose power drains continuously when active. His claws can defeat most normal enemies with two hits, and he possesses a slight passive healing factor.

Notavailable.svg

Cyclops
Cyclops' optic blasts can be fired in any direction by holding Down and releasing 1.

Notavailable.svg

Psylocke
Psylocke's mutant power is her Psi-blades, concentrated psionic energy that extends from her hands. While boasting a good attack range and damage output, she has the least health of all the playable characters.

Unlock: Complete the level Brood Cave.

Notavailable.svg

Nightcrawler
Nightcrawler's mutant power is short-range teleportation and the ability to climb walls and ceilings by pressing 2 twice and holding the button. If an enemy is caught in the area of his teleport, they are damaged. Nightcrawler lacks a double jump, but can jump higher than other characters, and features relatively low health and power.

Unlock: Complete the level Hellfire Club.

Notavailable.svg

Rogue
Rogue's mutant power is flight and very powerful melee attacks. Like Nightcrawler, she lacks a double jump, but compensates with the mobility of quick flight.

Unlock: Complete the level Madripoor.

Notavailable.svg

Storm
Storm's mutant power is flight and projectile lightning attacks. Like Nightcrawler and Rogue, she also cannot double jump.

Unlock: Complete the level Morlock Tunnel.

Notavailable.svg

Iceman
Iceman's mutant power is a projectile ice attack. He possesses the most health and power compared to the rest of the playable characters.

Unlock: Unknown.

Levels

Notavailable.svg

Hellfire Club
Boss: Sebastian Shaw.

Shaw is immune to all types of attacks. He can only be damaged by luring him to the traps in the room.

Notavailable.svg

Morlock Tunnels
Boss: Callisto

Callisto is quite has and has a staff attack. She will use hit and run attacks. Use ranged projectiles to defeat her.

Notavailable.svg

Brood Cave
Boss: Brood Queen

Similar to Callisto, Queen is a fast and aggressive melee fighter. Projectile attacks are, again, the best bet.

Notavailable.svg

The Savage Land
Boss: Sauron

Flies around with his wings and quite hard to beat. Use hit and run attacks, with projectiles if possible and stay away from edges of the arena.

Notavailable.svg

Madripoor
Boss: Omega Red

Omega Red uses his carbonadium coils to engage from afar. Projectiles are useful as his reach will be longer than characters'.

Notavailable.svg

Avalon
Boss: Magneto

Magneto is invulnerable when he is surrounded by glowing energy. He is only vulnerable when he descends into ground to fire an energy blast. He is quite unpredictable with his moves. A flying or projectile firing character will be very useful for this final fight.
