The Mega Everdrive, is an upgrade to the original Everdrive MD. It is part of the Everdrive family and was released in 2012.

The Mega Everdrive has all the features of an Everdrive MD. However, it adds a USB port (similar to other Everdrives) for homebrew development, reduces load times, supports larger ROMs up to 10MB, adds support for other cheat devices and can be used as a CD BackUp RAM Cart. It also allows the user to access an in-game menu during gameplay and save and load savestates.

Revisions

On January 2, 2015, a revision of the Mega Everdrive, known as the Mega Everdrive v2, was released, retailing for $166.00.[1] The maximum ROM size was increased from 10MB to 15MB, and adds support for GYM and TFC audio playback.

On September 14, 2016, new editions of the Mega Everdrive were released, replacing all existing editions of the Everdrive MD and Mega Everdrive. All three of these editions have replaced the SD card slot with a microSD card slot and have an unlimited rewrite count.

  • Mega Everdrive X3 - An entry-level budget flash cart with the bare essentials retailing at $49.00.[2] This edition lacks the Master System pause button, hardware Mega-Key and RAM Cart features, and requires the player to reset the console to save data. ROMs up to 8MB and SRAM up to 128KB are supported.
  • Mega Everdrive X5 - A middle-tier flash cart retailing at $89.00.[2] This model includes the SMS pause button, RAM Cart and Mega-Key features, but is still missing some of the more advanced features of the X7. ROMs up to 8MB and SRAM up to 128KB are supported.
  • Mega Everdrive X7 - The biggest flash cart retailing at $166.00.[2] This is essentially the Mega Everdrive v2 under a different name, along with the addition of a YM2413 core for FM sound in Master System games, and the ability to use a Master System BIOS. ROMs up to 16MB and SRAM up to 256KB are supported.
