Before entering the German market, each game must be approved by BPjM (Federal Review Board for Media Harmful to Minors). If the BPjM finds media unsuitable for minors, it can place it on an index that prevents the sale of the media to anyone under the age of 18.The non-compliant game goes to the censorship index of video games. Although BPjM can not completely prohibit the game, it can censor any and all advertisements and even the publication of the game.The German government permits ‘under the table’ purchasing of titles after release and after ban with the BPjM. Banned games can be legally obtained, but not published or advertised.
