Not wanting to be left behind, Sega chose to support Apple's iOS operating system at the first feasible opportunity. Though it has published exclusive games for the OS such as Kingdom Conquest, it has also released emulated versions of Sega Mega Drive games for the iOS App Store as well as cut-down versions of more modern console games.

Interestingly some arcade games such as Brick People and Sega Bass Fishing Challenge have completely bypassed home video game consoles in favor of iOS.

For ease of use, Sega Retro places iPod, iPhone, and iPad games in this category, though technical restrictions mean that in reality, iPad-specific games cannot be played on other devices.
