Jurassic Park (ジュラシック・パーク) is a Sega Mega Drive action platform game developed by BlueSky Software and published by Sega. Based on the 1993 film Jurassic Park, the game was first released worldwide in August 1993, and was later followed by an evolved sequel, Jurassic Park: Rampage Edition, one year later.

Story
Jurassic Park is a rain forest island preserve filled with dinosaurs bioengineered from ancient, preserved DNA. When a sudden violent hurricane hits the island, the park's systems fail and the dinosaurs rampage freely across the island. The paleontologist Dr. Alan Grant must safely escape the park, while an escaped Velociraptor stalks him.
Gameplay
The game is a side-scrolling action platformer that can be played as either Dr. Grant or a Velociraptor. The objective of each level is the reach the end. Both characters move with and . They can push some objects (such as crates) by moving into them. They duck with and move while ducked with and (to fit into tight spots). They jump with and jump down from some platforms with +. They automatically grab ledges when they jump near them.
Playing as Dr. Grant, his objective is to navigate through seven areas of Isla Nublar and make it safely to the Visitors Center to escape via helicopter. He must contend with the various dinosaurs that roam the island, now free of their enclosures. Grant can use various weapons, including a tranquilizer gun and gas grenades, which all require ammunition refills that are scattered throughout the island. Grant cycles between weapons (for which he has ammunition) with and uses the selected weapon with . Fired weapons can be shot directly upwards with +. He climbs ladders and operates elevators with and . He hangs off overhead lines by holding and moves across them with and . He drops off overhead lines when the D-Pad is released. He cannot use weapons while on ladders or lines.
Playing as the Velociraptor, its goal is to elude (or eliminate) the Jurassic Park security guards and corner Grant at the Visitors Center. It only plays five of the game's levels. It fights stray dinosaurs as well as the park guards, who are armed with similar weaponry as Grant. The Raptor can jump higher than Grant and run much faster. Instead of using weapons, it attacks from close-range using its teeth and claws. It bites with and bites and shakes with + or +. It kicks with and jump kicks with + or +. It pounces with +. Jumping on enemies also attacks them. Unlike Grant, the Raptor cannot climb ladders or overhead wires, but it can jump especially high with +.

Weapons
Weapons are only used by Dr. Grant. He starts with a supply of Blue-Banded Darts and a Stun Gun and gains additional weapons when he collects their ammo pick-ups. All weapons are nonlethal and only stun dinosaurs temporarily. Weapons have limited ammunition, and the ammunition quantities are retained between levels.

History
Development
For a while, BlueSky Software were producing two games concurrently: Jurassic Park, which saw the lion's share of the team's attention, and a version of Disney's Aladdin, with both projects sharing some staff. BlueSky's version of Aladdin was inevitably canceled and replaced by a re-worked version by Virgin Games, however a homage to this period can be seen in the North Western part of Jurassic Park's map, where an upside-down genie lamp is disguised as a mountain range.
Release
Within two weeks of release, Sega had sold 2.2 million copies of the game in the US, raising $13.5 million[10].
Legacy
The split gameplay of Jurassic Park was continued in Sega-produced Jurassic Park games to follow, namely Jurassic Park: Rampage Edition released the following year and The Lost World: Jurassic Park for the Sega Saturn.
