After the successful sale of Mega Drive in this region, the next step was to promote the new Sega Saturn console. Also, distributors from this region were optimistic about the new console to such an extent that they started importing consoles from Asia in the spring of 1995. This was done in the CIS countries and the Czech Republic, where official distributors began selling consoles in limited quantities during this period.

The console was presented officially in this region for the first time around August/September 1995 in Hungary. In the rest of the countries, sales began in May 1996. Saturn was previously available in several countries such as Russia or Poland from distributors, but full retail sales started in May.

Despite many attempts, Saturn was defeated by PlayStation. The main reason for this was the practical lack of pirated and cheap software that made the Mega Drive and PlayStation popular. Around 1997, a local pirate managed to create the first pirate copies of games for Saturn in Russia, but Sega had already started ditching the console in favor of the new Dreamcast.
