The InfraRad is an unreleased Sega Mega Drive accessory designed by ASG Technologies. A small infrared remote control device, it would have allowed standard Control Pads to be plugged into a dock which would wirelessly interface with a Mega Drive, and also boasted compatibility with ASG's Video JukeBox.[2]

Blurb

The InfraRad comes with two joypad ports imbedded in the front of the unit, enhancing joypads that the gamer already owns. Once a joypad is plugged into the InfraRad (instead of the game system itself), unique features built into the InfraRad allow it to engage funtions such as slow-motion and rapid fire. In addition, the InfraRad also allows the gamer to activate the game system it's working with, as well as the Video Jukebox (if you own one, or more than one). The InfraRad has controls built in so you can switch between games from the couch, like a remote control.

History

Durand Interstellar, a Los Gatos electronics company which collaborated with ASG Technologies, played a manufacturing role in the product.[1] Similar systems were planned for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and Atari Jaguar,[3][2] though these were also scrapped.
