Gameplay
Virtua Fighter Kids is an offshoot of Virtua Fighter 2, starring super-deformed "kids" versions of the main cast. It is reportedly 20% faster, and in some cases simpler version of the base game, with a greater emphasis on combos, which can be customised via a new "combo maker". Collision detection (and to a lesser degree, physics) are also altered, making characters easier to hit, and on the Saturn at least, there is an option to simplify the control scheme further for younger players. In-fight replays are also introduced, having been borrowed from Fighting Vipers.
Its arcade mode is structured similarly to Virtua Fighter 2, however characters are fought in a different order. Stages are the same (including the bonus "Chicago" arena when Jacky and Sarah Bryant fight) but have been made more childlike, and an extra two will be used if Pai or Shun fight themselves.
In Japan the game heavily advertises the Japanese Sinvino beverage, Java Tea (ジャワティー), with Jacky holding a can in a victory pose and Shun regularly taking sips of the beverage during fights. All Java Tea references were removed from Western versions.
