Sega Ages Wonder Boy: Monster Land (SEGA AGES ワンダーボーイ モンスターランド) is a conversion of the Sega System 2 arcade game, Wonder Boy in Monster Land, developed by M2 as the ninth entry in the Sega Ages lineup for the Nintendo Switch.

Gameplay

Sega Ages Wonder Boy: Monster Land features three gameplay modes to the player: Arcade Mode, Money Hungry Mode and Challenge Mode. Extra features include the ability to save and load game progress, and save replays of the player's sessions in the main game or Challenge Mode. The player may also change the game's region to Japanese or International.

Arcade Mode

Arcade Mode is the original version of the game as it was originally played in arcades. The player also has the option to enable Power Up New Game in this mode, which allows them to begin the game with the most powerful equipment acquired in the previous game session. High scores achieved in this mode will be uploaded to the Gold Rush Ranking.

Money Hungry Mode

Money Hungry Mode is essentially the original game, with the sole difference being that the player cannot use the Mashing trick (performed by mashing Left and Right repeatedly, or by holding R in this version) to increase the value of gold hidden in various points around the game. Attempting to use Mashing in this mode will just give the player the standard value of gold.

Challenge Mode

In Challenge Mode, the player can compete for a high score in one of three challenges with their best scores being uploaded to an online leaderboard. These challenges are the same ones originally included in Sega Vintage Collection: Monster World. The challenges are:

  1. Sphinx Challenge Time Attack: The player must defeat the Sphinx as quickly as possible. The player has infinite Revival Potions for this challenge.
  2. Monster Castle Challenge Time Attack: The player must get through Monster Castle with the strongest equipment and defeat the Dragon as quickly as possible. The player has infinite Revival Potions for this challenge.
  3. Fire Ball Challenge Score Attack: Using an infinite supply of FireBalls, the player must get the highest score possible. The challenge ends if the player takes damage or runs out of time.
