The House of the Dead 2 (ザ ハウス オブ ザ デッド 2) is a Sega NAOMI arcade horror light gun game developed by Sega AM1 and manufactured by Sega . First released to Japanese arcades in November 1998 to critical and commercial success that surpassed even its predecessor, the game has since been regarded as one of Sega's most seminal and classic arcade titles, and is the direct basis for a number of spin-off titles like The Typing of the Dead .
In March 1999, The House of the Dead 2 was ported to the Sega Dreamcast courtesy of developer CRI , and was also later ported to Windows PCs in January 2001 courtesy of developer H.I.C. . The game also appears an an unlockable bonus in the 2003 Xbox port of its sequel The House of the Dead 3 , and as a featured game in the 2008 Nintendo Wii compilation The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return .
