Shuji Utsumi (内海 州史) is a Japanese businessman and former Sega of Japan senior vice president.[2]
Contents
Career
Shuji Utsumi joined Sony in 1986 and was assigned to its main General Planning Office. While he was employed, he obtained an MBA from Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania under an in-house study abroad program. He was deeply involved in the establishment of Sony Computer Entertainment and the launch of PlayStation's American business.
After helping to launch the PlayStation in the United States, Utsumi was hired by Sega of Japan as its senior vice president, where he assisted in the launch of the Sega Dreamcast.
Following his time at Sega, Utsumi went on to become deeply involved in the production of the Kingdom Hearts series. In 2003, he co-founded Q Entertainment alongside game designer Tetsuya Mizuguchi, becoming the company's CEO and frequently acting as company producer. More recently, Utsumi has served as the CSO of Sega of Japan and the general manager of Japan Asia Studio,[2] followed by becoming the head of Game Contents & Service Business HQ, Project Management HQ.[3]
