R&D Dept. #9 (第9研究開発部) was the ninth research and development lab within Sega which existed for one year, from 1990 to 1991. Alongside Sega R&D 6, it developed video games for the Sega Mega Drive. It was spun off of Sega R&D 2, focusing on games for the Sega Mega Drive while R&D 2 continued to develop 8-bit games.[2] It was rebranded as Sega CS1 a year later.
