Software R&D Dept. #5 (第五ソフト研究開発部) was a video game research and development division within Sega and successor to AM Annex, being the the department's second rebranding after AM12[3].
R&D #5 only existed for eleven months before becoming Sega Rosso. The department operated similarly to AM Annex, just with a new name.[4] [5][6] Naturally, its expertise was still in racing games, which it combined with its previous venture into the world of Star Wars to create Star Wars Racer Arcade[3].
