Unlicensed Mega Drive clones (Keyboard models)

From Sega Retro

From the end of the 90s, consoles began to have a less and less important role due to the developing PCs in the target pirate markets (Asia, Eastern Europe, Middle East, Africa, South America). In order to make the purchase of unlicensed equipment more attractive, producers (mainly in China) started to produce, instead of clones resembling PlayStation, a combination of consoles with computer keyboards, calling them educational consoles. Usually, these devices were associated with the 8-bit Nintendo. In 2000, consoles were banned in China, but law allowed the production of these educational consoles, because consider them as a computer, thus allowing China and the rest of the world to be flooded by a wave of educational consoles in the early 2000s. Most of them are 8-bit Nintendo, but there are also versions of 16-bit Sega. Most of these Sega clones was intended for China, Russian and CIS markets, where Sega was still popular.
