Mobile Phone Contents Development Dept.[1] (モバイル研究開発部)[2][3], also called the Mobile Product Development Dept.[4] Mobile Content R&D Dept.[5] was the development division in Sega dedicated to mobile development. It was one of 7 departments in the Global Entertainment R&D Div. of Sega Corporation[1].
It was Wave Master who initially started mobile phone development with mobile phone services that had a monthly fee. The team behind the PuyoSega, Sonic Cafe, Ulala no Channel J, Sega Ages services spun off from Wave Master. Over times iOS and Android became the major focus for Sega, culminating into the Sega Networks subsidiary being established in July of 2012.
Many known developers at Mobile Phone Contents Development hailed from Sega WOW, a merger of WOW Entertainment and Overworks, both of which had a strong mobile presence as well.
