The Sixth Research & Development Department (第六研究開発部) was the shortlived sixth department of Sega Interactive.[1][2][3] Little is known about its existence, however it appears to have been formed around February 2019 at the same time as Interactive's move to the Sumitomo Fudosan Osaki Garden Tower offices that also created Sega Interactive R&D4 and R&D5, and was previously most likely the "ME R&D" department of Sega Interactive R&D1.[4] This would make it a successor of AM6, marking the first time Sega medal game development personnel had an independent unit since their 1999 merger with AM4 to become Mechatro and later move to Sega R&D1 in 2011.
During its known period of existence, the department would have most prominently completed work on the original release version of StarHorse4,[1][2][3] updated Babel no Medal Tower with Babel no Medal Tower W and started early development on other titles.
It became a department under the fifth division of the new Sega Corporation in 2020, following the merger of Sega Interactive into the former Sega Games.
