The 1st Development Division[1] (第1事業部), is a development division of Sega. It is the home of Ryu ga Gotoku Studio,[2] and develops console games, mainly Like a Dragon series.[3] It is also responsible for Virtua Fighter and the AM2 brand, featuring staffs from Sega Interactive R&D2 and working on updates to its other mainstay titles such as Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA,[4] and Kancolle Arcade.[5]
It is distinct among the development divisions for always pursuing cutting-edge tech, working closely with the Development Technology Division as a result. Its job profiles are also quite flexible, for example game designers may be more involved with the programming team than is usual.
The division's duties don't end at game development, as they are heavily involved with localizing and promoting their games as well. It houses a localization team and handles public relations like a business-to-consumer company, using fan events, YouTube, social media and other methods of directly communicating with their global audience.[1]
