Sega R&D Soft Dept. #8 was a video game research and development division within Sega and successor to Sega CS3. The department operated similarly to CS3, just with a new name[2][3].
Like CS3, it is thought all of R&D's products were sold under Sonic Team branding. The group only existed for eleven months before being spun off into an official Sonic Team company.
